Sleep apnea is a medical condition, not a wellness problem

Why the tracker that flagged it cannot diagnose it, and what an actual assessment involves.

Obstructive sleep apnea is a medical condition with real cardiovascular consequences — not a sleep-quality inconvenience. That distinction matters for what to do next.

What an assessment involves

A clinical assessment starts with a structured history and usually proceeds to a sleep study: either a home test with a few sensors, or a night in a laboratory with full monitoring. The home version is cheaper and adequate for many cases; the laboratory version answers harder questions. Which one you need is a clinical decision, not a price decision.

Where wellness tools fit

A wearable that flags irregular breathing overnight has done something useful: it has given you a reason to see a professional. It has not diagnosed you, and no consumer device currently can. Take the flag seriously, and take it to a clinician.
