Only 11 of 47 sleep clinics would tell us the price
We asked every sleep clinic in our register what an overnight study costs. Most quoted "on request" — the main reason patients end up with unexpected bills.
Between March and July we contacted every sleep clinic in our register and asked one question: what does an overnight study cost? Not a quote for a specific case — the list price, the number a person needs to compare one clinic against another.
Of 47 clinics, 11 published a price, 26 said "on request", and 10 did not respond to two enquiries sent five working days apart.
Why it matters more here than elsewhere
A sleep study is not a single item. The overnight stay, the physician's reading of the trace, the follow-up consultation and any equipment trial are frequently billed separately — and which of them your insurance covers depends on whether you arrived with a referral. A clinic quoting a low headline figure may be quoting the bed alone.
This is the reason published pricing is one of our seven verification criteria rather than a nice-to-have. It is also the criterion that most listings fail.
What to do with this
Ask for a written quote that names each component, and ask specifically whether the reading and the follow-up are included. Any clinic unwilling to put that in writing before you book is telling you something useful.
